Amazon Launches ‘Health AI’ Assistant to Simplify Treatment for 30+ Conditions
Online retail giant Amazon is introducing a healthcare-focused artificial intelligence (AI) assistant on its website and app. In an announcement on Tuesday (10 March), the company said the AI assistant will help simplify treatment processes for more than 30 medical conditions, according to Reuters.
The assistant, named Health AI, will be able to interpret diagnostic results, connect patients with physicians, and answer questions related to medications and symptoms. The model, first announced in January, was previously available only to members of Amazon’s clinical service provider One Medical.
Andrew Diamond, Chief Medical Officer of Amazon One Medical, said, “Health AI is designed to handle the logistical and informational tasks that often create barriers in healthcare. This will allow patients and physicians to focus more on matters that are truly important.”
The AI assistant will be capable of providing symptom management, virtual assessments, and treatment guidance for both common and complex conditions—from acne and head lice to diabetes and sleep apnea. However, Amazon noted that the tool does not create medical treatment plans.
Patients may choose to grant the AI assistant access to their laboratory results, medical records, and clinical notes. Additionally, the tool will be able to analyse information related to healthcare products purchased on Amazon’s platform—such as vitamins or blood pressure monitors—and ask relevant follow-up questions.
Users will not need to subscribe to Amazon’s premium prescription service Prime or be members of One Medical to use the AI assistant. It will be available free of charge. However, in cases involving complex medical conditions or when professional care is required, patients will be connected with physicians. For those who are not members of One Medical or are not using Prime’s standard offers, consulting a physician will cost $29 per visit.
