Ahead of the upcoming Eid-ul-Fitr, Bangladesh Railway has commenced the sale of advance train tickets. The process began on Tuesday, 3 March, at 8:00 a.m. with the sale of advance tickets for 13 March for trains traveling to the western region. Ticket sales will continue until the allocated tickets are sold out. Tickets for all intercity trains operating in the eastern region on the same date will go on sale from 2:00 p.m.
According to the decision of Bangladesh Railway, tickets for 14 March will be available on 4 March; tickets for 15 March on 5 March; tickets for 16 March on 6 March; tickets for 17 March on 7 March; tickets for 18 March on 8 March; and tickets for 19 March on 9 March.
As in previous years, 100 percent of Eid journey tickets will be sold online. To purchase tickets, passengers must connect to the internet using a mobile phone or computer and follow several steps. Tickets can be purchased conveniently from home by visiting the official website of Bangladesh Railway through a computer or smartphone. Alternatively, passengers can download the “Rail Sheba” app from the mobile Play Store, complete registration, and purchase train tickets online with ease. Payments can be made through bKash, Nagad, or bank transactions. The process has been described as very simple.
To buy tickets online, passengers must first connect to the internet using a smartphone, computer, or laptop and enter the official railway website or the downloaded Rail Sheba app to complete registration.
On the Bangladesh Railway website or app, users must create an account by registering with their National Identity Card (NID), email address, and phone number.
If all information is correct, the registration will be successfully completed, and a new page under the name Bangladesh Railway will appear. The user will be automatically logged in. If auto login does not occur, users must enter their email and password in the login panel and click the login button.
After logging in, users must select the intended travel date, departure station, destination station, and class on the page displayed, then click the “Search Ticket” button. The next page will show the train name, seat availability (whether seats are available or not), and departure time. By clicking the “View Seats” button for the selected train, passengers can choose their preferred seat, subject to availability, and then click “Continue Purchase.”
Passengers will then be able to pay the ticket price. After clicking the “Continue Purchase” option, payment methods including bKash, Nagad, Rocket, Dutch-Bangla Agent Banking, and Visa card will appear. Once payment is completed, the train ticket will be sent to the passenger’s email. Additionally, the ticket can be downloaded immediately after payment using the download option. Passengers must carry a copy of the downloaded train ticket when entering the railway station and during travel. Otherwise, they may face fines in accordance with railway law.
However, on the day of departure, considering additional passenger demand, 25 percent of the allocated general class seats will be sold as standing tickets from station counters.
