ICT Pass Rate Crosses 99% in Most Boards

DHAKA, August 10, Monday: The recently published Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examination results revealed an unprecedented disparity across subjects. Widespread failures in core subjects such as English and General Mathematics contributed to a significant drop in both the average pass percentage and total GPA-5 achievements nationwide.

According to teachers and board evaluators, students from the Humanities stream—particularly those under the Madrasah Education Board (Dakhil)—struggled significantly in Mathematics and English, dragging down national averages to nearly two-decade lows.

Conversely, Information and Communications Technology (ICT) delivered a surprising turnaround. Despite traditionally registering lower scores, ICT achieved near-100% pass rates across most boards this year.

Breakdown of ICT and Science Performance
Information & Communication Technology (ICT) performance showed an exceptional surge:

• Above 99% Pass Rate: Rajshahi, Chattogram, Barishal, Sylhet, Dinajpur, and Technical Education Boards.
• Above 98% Pass Rate: Dhaka, Comilla, Mymensingh, and Madrasah Education Boards.
• Lowest ICT Pass Rate: Jessore Board with 97.86%.

Science subjects also demonstrated strong outcomes. Higher Mathematics exceeded a 90% pass rate in all 11 education boards, while Physics recorded over 90% success in 7 boards.

Board-wise Analysis: English and Mathematics
Mymensingh Education Board recorded the poorest statistics, registering a pass rate of just 66.64% in English and 69.61% in Mathematics. Essentially, 33 out of every 100 students failed English, while 30 failed Math in this board.

English Language Performance:

• Below 70% Pass Rate: Mymensingh (66.64%), Sylhet (69.11%), and Barishal (69.24%).
• Between 70% and 80%: Jessore (71.84%), Chattogram (72.27%), Rajshahi (74.70%), Dhaka (78.40%), and Madrasah Board (79.21%).
• Above 80% Pass Rate: Comilla Board (81.29%) and Technical Education Board (94.70%).

Mathematics Performance:

• Below 70% Pass Rate: Mymensingh and Madrasah Education Boards.
• Between 70% and 80%: Technical (70.92%), Dinajpur (71.05%), Sylhet (75.96%), Rajshahi (77.17%), and Barishal (77.98%).
• Above 80% Pass Rate: Dhaka, Comilla, Jessore, and Chattogram Boards.

While students adapted well to ICT and digital assessments, educationists emphasize the need for targeted interventions to address foundational learning gaps in English and Mathematics among Humanities students.
