497 Newly Appointed ICT Office Assistants Attend Orientation

The Directorate of Information and Communication Technology (DoICT) has recently recruited 497 office assistants. An orientation programme for the newly appointed office assistants was held on February 3 at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon, Dhaka.

The chief guest at the event was Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology. The programme was chaired by ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury, while the Director General of the ICT Division, Md Abu Sayeed, attended as a special guest. Officials of the ICT Division and the newly recruited office assistants were also present at the programme.

In his address as the chief guest, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said that the primary responsibility of the newly recruited ICT personnel is to deliver digital services to people at their doorsteps and to carry out this duty with honesty and dedication. He noted that the recruitment was completed through a completely transparent and corruption-free process from among nearly 97,000 candidates, setting an example of a credible recruitment system.

The Special Assistant further stated that the DoICT offices at the upazila level serve as the local representation of the government’s digital transformation. Therefore, the newly appointed officials must play a sincere and responsible role in providing online services, registrations, information technology support, and cybersecurity assistance to citizens. He also mentioned that necessary infrastructure—including lab facilities, programmers, and assistant programmers—has already been established at upazila offices.

Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb added that coordination with other government departments at the field level, providing IT support, and assisting local entrepreneurs and citizen service initiatives are key responsibilities of the ICT Division. He also urged officials to take the initiative to enhance their IT skills and participate in training programmes so that the quality of digital services can be further improved.

Despite existing limitations, he said, this recruitment presents a significant opportunity and will play an important role in advancing the country’s digital transformation and expanding citizen services. He expressed optimism that the newly recruited officials would help spread the reputation of the ICT Division across the country.

In his speech as the chair, ICT Secretary Shish Haider Chowdhury said that the government’s development activities in the information and communication technology sector would gain further momentum through the creation of a skilled, honest, and responsible workforce. He called upon the new recruits to perform their duties with professionalism and dedication.
