Bangladesh Mentioned in Epstein Files, Email References icddr,b Research Proposal
Bangladesh has also been mentioned in the widely discussed Epstein files released by the United States Department of Justice. An email included in the documents refers to Bangladesh’s internationally renowned research institution, icddr,b.
In the email, icddr,b is described as a “very well-known institution” in Bangladesh, and a proposal is outlined to invest in long-term probiotic research at the institute. The email was sent on April 17, 2014, to the disgraced American financier Jeffrey Epstein by one of his close associates.
According to the released documents, the subject line of the email was “Gut Microbiology – icddr,b.”
The email proposed establishing a public-private partnership-based research initiative centered on icddr,b in Bangladesh. Under the proposal, relatively low initial investment could ensure a guaranteed return of 3 percent from the profits of any probiotics or related products developed in the future.
The email further noted that since icddr,b holds charitable status, such investments could qualify for tax benefits under the US 501(c)(3) framework. The proposer described the plan as a “10-year long-term strategy” and characterized the potential partnership as a “big win.”
Subsequent Epstein-related documents include an iMessage conversation dated July 14, 2015, which took place within Epstein’s own communication circle. In the exchange, an unidentified associate asked Epstein, “What did you try in Bangladesh? I don’t remember.” Epstein replied, “I remember trying once—to help in Bangladesh, cholera, etc. Then millions got involved, but the outcome was terrible—everything went wrong.”
Another email included in the Epstein files shows that one of Epstein’s close associates had traveled to Bangladesh and India. However, the documents do not provide detailed information about the purpose or activities of that visit.
