Google Adds Gemini-Powered AI Features Nano Banana to Chrome
Google is adding more AI-driven capabilities to its web browser Chrome, rolling out several new features centred on Gemini, including the company’s own image generator, Nano Banana. The new tools will be made available to users gradually, according to a report by Engadget.
Google said that a newly introduced sidebar in Chrome will allow users to interact with Gemini from any open tab. Users will also be able to continue the same conversation across multiple tabs, enabling more seamless multitasking.
According to the company, this feature will be particularly useful for users who handle several tasks at once—such as comparing product reviews across different websites or finding suitable time slots for events amid busy schedules.
The Nano Banana image generator will also be accessible directly from the sidebar. This means users will no longer need to switch to the Gemini app separately to create or edit images using AI. There will be no need to download and re-upload images either, as all related tasks can be carried out directly from any open tab.
Over the coming months, Google plans to introduce another feature to Chrome called Personal Intelligence. With this feature, the browser will be able to remember a user’s previous conversations with Gemini. Google claims this will allow Chrome to provide more personalised and contextually relevant assistance based on individual user habits.
Gemini in Chrome already supports Google’s Connected Apps feature, enabling it to pull relevant information from services such as Gmail and Google Calendar. In one demonstration, Gemini was shown automatically identifying vacation dates directly from a user’s inbox.
In addition, Google has launched an Auto Browse feature on a trial basis. Through this feature, Gemini can search the web—and even shop online—on behalf of the user. However, Google emphasised that user permission will be required at every critical step, such as before using login credentials or payment card information. For now, the feature is available only to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the United States.
Google said these new features are designed to help users who regularly perform similar online tasks by saving time and streamlining workflows.
