Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI has surpassed $20 billion in annualized revenue in 2025, according to a blog post published on Sunday by the company’s Chief Financial Officer, Sarah Friar. Reuters reported the development.

In 2024, OpenAI’s revenue stood at around $6 billion. Friar attributed the sharp growth primarily to the rapid expansion of computing capacity, which has significantly strengthened the company’s operational scale.

She noted that OpenAI’s computing capacity rose to 1.9 gigawatts in 2025, up from just 0.6 gigawatts in 2024. At the same time, the Microsoft-backed company has reached an all-time high in both weekly and daily active users.

As part of its revenue expansion strategy, OpenAI has recently announced pilot advertising initiatives for a segment of ChatGPT users in the United States. Friar also said the company will place increasing emphasis on AI agents and automated workflow-based technologies in the coming period.

Looking ahead, OpenAI plans to prioritize real-world applications in the healthcare, science, and corporate sectors in 2026, further expanding the commercial and practical impact of its AI technologies.
