SUCSU Campaign Countdown: Candidates Wrap Up Promotions
The Shahjalal University of Science and Technology Central Student Council (SUCSU) election campaign is set to conclude on Saturday, with the election commission denying candidates’ requests for an extension despite disruptions during the campaign period.
Speaking on the matter, SUCSU Chief Election Commissioner Professor Abul Mukit Mohammad Moqaddes said, “There is no opportunity to extend the election campaign. As per yesterday’s ECI directive, the SUCSU election must be conducted following the code of conduct. According to national parliament election rules, campaigning must end 48 hours before voting. Extending the campaign now would create additional problems. Hence, we remain within the 48-hour window.”
Earlier, candidates submitted signed memorandums to the election commission and university administration by Wednesday afternoon, January 14, highlighting disruptions in normal campaigning over the past three days due to uncertainties caused by a prior ECI order before the national parliamentary elections. Independent candidates especially noted that they lacked support from party panels during their campaign.
According to the SUCSU election schedule, voting will take place on Tuesday, January 20, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Campaigning officially ends on Saturday at 10:00 p.m., with a one-hour allowance from 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Sunday.
