Overseas Postal Voting Registration Extended Until December 31
Ahead of the upcoming national parliamentary election, the Election Commission (EC) has extended the deadline for overseas voters to register for postal voting until December 31. At the same time, the EC has directed that scheduled banks remain open on Saturday, December 27, to facilitate election-related banking activities.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, December 24, by EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the Election Building in Agargaon, Dhaka.
To enable expatriate Bangladeshis to cast their votes, the EC launched the ‘Postal Vote BD’ app on November 18, with the registration process beginning on November 19. The initial deadline, set for December 25, has now been extended by six days.
Akhtar Ahmed urged eligible voters who have not yet registered to complete the registration process by December 31.
He further stated that the EC has requested Bangladesh Bank to keep scheduled banks open on Saturday so that prospective candidates and their agents can complete necessary banking formalities related to nomination submissions.
As of the previous deadline, a total of 686,736 voters had registered through the Postal Vote BD app. Among them were 634,092 male voters and 52,642 female voters. The data also show that 167,622 registrants include election officials, government employees posted outside their voting constituencies, and voters currently in legal custody.
