JUST Journeys into Genome: Sanger Sequencing Seminar
A hands-on training workshop covering sample preparation using the Sanger method, DNA sequencing, chain termination technology, clinical diagnostics, mutation checking, and chromatogram reading was held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST).
The four-day workshop, titled “Partial Genome Sequencing Using the Sanger Method,” was organised by the university’s Genome Center from December 6 to 9 and concluded on December 9 with a certificate distribution ceremony at the National Poet Kazi Nazrul Islam Academic Building, 9th floor. The event was graced by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid as the chief guest.
During the ceremony, Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid emphasised the importance of such workshops in enhancing the university’s research capacity. He said, “Increasing research capabilities and utilising modern laboratory facilities allow us to contribute further to molecular research. Students must become research-oriented, and I hope that the knowledge gained in such training workshops will enrich your academic pursuits.”
The workshop saw the participation of 62 trainees from JUST and other universities across Bangladesh. Training was provided by Genome Center Deputy Director Dr. Md. Alauddin, Associate Professor of Microbiology Dr. Md. Abinu Kibria Islam, and Assistant Technical Officer of the Genome Center Md. Ali Ahsan Setu. Certificates were awarded to the participants by the JUST Vice-Chancellor at the conclusion of the program.
