PNRFR Provides Free Prescriptions and Medicines to Over 1,100 Patients in Shariatpur

More than 1,100 underprivileged patients outside Dhaka received doctors’ prescriptions and free medicines according to their respective medical conditions, courtesy of the Professor Nazrul Rheumatology Foundation and Research (PNRFR) Trust.

As part of its regular free health camp initiative, the PNRFR Trust organized a daylong health camp on Friday, 5 December, at Shahid Siraj Sikdar Degree College in Vederganj, Shariatpur.

The health camp was conducted with the support of Bangladesh Medical & Dental Council (BMDC) Councillor and child specialist Professor Dr. Md. Mahmud Hossain. The camp was led by PNRFR Trust Chairman and rheumatology specialist Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam and Trust Vice Chairman Associate Professor Dr. Neera Ferdous. Rheumatologist Dr. Buddhadev Sarkar and 17 physicians from Bangladesh Medical University also participated.

Among others present were Trust Secretary Dr. Piyush Biswas and Executive Committee members Nurul Islam Khokon, Jubair Ahmed, Md. Burhan Uddin, Md. Samiul Haque, Borhan Uddin, and Kazi Manzur Saklayen, along with staff members of Modern One-Stop Arthritis Care & Research Centre (MOSACRC).

The 34-member medical team successfully operated the camp from morning till night with strong support from the local community.

PNRFR Chairman Professor Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam said the Trust has been engaged in various social welfare activities since its establishment. “We plan to expand these initiatives further in the future,” he added.

He also said that apart from supporting arthritis patients, the Trust offers one-time treatment assistance for critical illnesses, scholarships for underprivileged meritorious students, ambulance services in North Bengal, winter clothing distribution, and aid for flood victims. “We are grateful to everyone who supports our work,” he noted.

Physicians at the camp shared essential information to raise awareness about arthritis and rheumatic conditions. They also briefed patients on early symptoms and treatment methods for such diseases.

Following the camp, Professor Dr. Md. Mahmud Hossain, a child specialist, said, “It is rare to witness such uninterrupted service delivered to 1,100 people in a single day for specific medical needs. This is historic for our region. We express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved with the Trust.”
