In-Country Postal Voting Registration to Begin from the Day of Schedule Announcement
The 13th National Parliamentary Election and the national referendum are set to be held on the same day in the second half of February. For the first time, expatriate Bangladeshis are being given the opportunity to cast their votes. To facilitate this, the online registration process for overseas voters began on 18 November. Alongside extending the registration deadline to 25 December, the Election Commission (EC) is also preparing to announce the election schedule by 11 December. From the day of the announcement, the EC intends to launch in-country postal voter registration as well.
On Saturday, 6 December, Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out-of-Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV–SDI) project, said that voters engaged in election duties, government employees staying outside their respective constituencies, and voters under legal custody will be able to exercise their voting rights through the Postal Vote BD app from the day the election schedule is announced until 25 December. He advised interested voters to visit the Bangladesh Election Commission website for further details.
According to EC sources, the election schedule may be announced next week. The Commission is scheduled to pay a courtesy visit to the President on 10 December, after which the formal schedule may be declared. Meanwhile, the EC has already stated that three categories of individuals inside the country will be given a 15-day period to register through the app.
