Petrobangla–BUET Pact to Boost Research, Training, and Industry Collaboration
Petrobangla and Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) have signed a new memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at accelerating education, research, and training activities. Under the agreement, BUET’s teachers and students will gain access to Petrobangla’s laboratories, software, drilling sites, seismic surveys, process plants, and coal mines—opportunities expected to significantly support practical, field-based research. The collaboration is also anticipated to further strengthen ties between industry and academia as real-world industrial experience becomes integrated into academic curricula.
According to Petrobangla, the MoU will facilitate easier information exchange between the two organizations, expedite joint research, and expand seminars, workshops, and training programs for enhancing professional skills. Applying research outcomes to industry operations and bringing industrial experience into teaching and research are expected to play a pivotal role in fostering innovation and technological advancement in the country’s energy sector.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, 4 December, Petrobangla stated that the signing ceremony took place at the Petrobangla boardroom, attended by BUET Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman and Petrobangla Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman. On behalf of Petrobangla, Secretary Amjad Hossain signed the agreement, while Professor Dr. Muhammad Shariful Islam, Director of the Research and Innovation Centre for Science and Engineering (RISE), signed on behalf of BUET. Senior officials from both institutions were also present.
It was further announced that the MoU will take effect immediately upon signing and remain valid for five years, after which it will be automatically renewed for another five-year term.
