Khaleda Zia to Be Flown to London After Midnight by Air Ambulance
Following three rounds of virtual consultations with doctors and her son Tarique Rahman in London, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is set to be flown to the United Kingdom for advanced medical treatment. She will be taken from Evercare Hospital in Dhaka’s Bashundhara to London anytime after midnight. Tarique Rahman’s wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, is arriving in Dhaka from London to assist with the process, while Qatar is sending an air ambulance for her transport.
Briefing the media outside Evercare Hospital at 3 p.m. on Thursday, December 4, Khaleda Zia’s personal physician and BNP Standing Committee member Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain said the former prime minister is in a “critical” condition and will be moved to London after midnight.
Dr. Zahid Hossain stated that, based on the unanimous decision of the medical board comprising both local and foreign specialists, the BNP chief will be flown to London on a Qatar air ambulance either shortly after midnight or on Friday morning. She will be admitted to a designated hospital there. Several doctors from Bangladesh and abroad will accompany her.
He sought prayers from the nation for Khaleda Zia’s recovery. He also expressed gratitude on behalf of Tarique Rahman and the family, extending thanks to various embassies in Dhaka.
When asked about her latest condition, he said no decisions are being made outside the medical board’s recommendations. Three virtual meetings were held on Wednesday. Foreign doctors have physically examined her. After consulting all members of the board, he noted that they are now “much more hopeful.”
According to sources, those traveling with Khaleda Zia include UK-based specialist Dr. Richard Beale, daughter-in-law Syeda Shamila Rahman, physicians Abu Zafar Mohammad Zahid Hossain, Mohammad Anamul Haque Chowdhury, Fakhruddin Mohammad Siddiqi, Shahabuddin Talukder, Nuruddin Ahmad, Zafar Iqbal, Mohammad Al Mamun, SSF member Hasan Shahriar Iqbal, Syed Shami Mahfuz, assistant to the acting chairman Abdul Hai Mallik, personal assistant secretary Masudur Rahman, and domestic aides Fatema Begum and Rupa Sikder.
Khaleda Zia has been undergoing treatment at Evercare Hospital for the past 12 days. Sources report that while complications from her lung infection have slightly improved, cardiac issues persist, and most of her other conditions remain unchanged.
