Postal Vote BD: Overseas Registration Reaches 101,987 Ahead of National Polls
A total of 101,987 expatriate Bangladeshis have completed registration through the Postal Vote BD app to cast their ballots in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election and referendum.
The information was obtained from the postal voting update published on the Election Commission’s (EC) website. According to the latest data as of 8 PM on Sunday, 30 November, the registrants include 86,591 men and 15,396 women.
In the country-wise registration list, the United States tops the chart with 17,674 registrants. It is followed by South Korea with 9,375; Canada 8,385; Singapore 8,021; Australia 7,391; Japan 6,770; the United Kingdom 6,238; South Africa 4,711; Italy 4,681; and Saudi Arabia 3,592.
Meanwhile, voter registration has resumed from Sunday afternoon in seven countries, including Saudi Arabia. Md. Ruhul Amin Mallik, Director (Public Relations) at the EC Secretariat, said expatriates in Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, and Malaysia can once again register through the app.
He added that expatriates must provide accurate postal addresses to ensure the delivery of postal ballots overseas. If needed, the address of a friend, relative, or known institution may also be used.
The EC further informed that registration for expatriate Bangladeshi voters via the app will remain open worldwide from 12:01 AM on 27 November until 11:59 PM on 18 December.
Senior Secretary of the EC Secretariat Akhtar Ahmed said enabling Bangladeshis abroad to vote marks a significant advancement in the country’s electoral process. Additionally, in-country postal voting (ICPV) has been introduced for government officials, voters in lawful custody, and government employees posted outside their home constituencies—benefiting nearly one million voters.
On 18 November, the Chief Election Commissioner officially launched the Postal Vote BD app and announced the registration timeline for 148 countries ahead of the polls.
To cast a postal ballot, expatriate voters must use their local mobile numbers. After downloading the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store, they must complete registration by submitting required documents and following the provided instructions. A correct postal address is essential for ballot delivery abroad.
