PRAN-RFL Group Chairman and CEO Ahsan Khan Chowdhury has announced the introduction of In-Pond Raceway System (IPRS) technology in Bangladesh to reduce the cost of fish production and increase efficiency.

“We have acquired a farm in Moulvibazar covering 1,800 bighas. We will cultivate carp fish there using IPRS technology,” he said. “This technology was not previously used in Bangladesh; it has been practiced in China. With IPRS, fish consume less feed but grow faster. Fish will be exercised properly through a controlled water tunnel, allowing them to grow significantly within a short time. This will likely be the third farm in Bangladesh using IPRS.”

He added that the company also has a farm in Godagari, Rajshahi, where similar initiatives are underway.

Ahsan Khan Chowdhury made these remarks on 29 November, Saturday, at CIRDAP Auditorium in Dhaka during the third day of a four-day conference titled “Political Commitment in Agriculture and Food”, organised by the Bangladesh Agricultural Journalists Forum (BAJF). The specific session was titled “Political Commitment to Agriculture and the Rural Economy.”

The session was moderated by BAJF General Secretary Abu Khaled and chaired by BAJF President Shahanowar Said Shaheen. BNP Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury attended the event as the chief guest.

In his keynote remarks, Chowdhury said Bangladesh still has significant room for advancement in the agricultural sector.

“Agriculture in Bangladesh has not yet undergone many revolutions. There is huge potential to move forward,” he said. “The sector needs fresh thinking. Every few years, industries require a reset to progress properly, and I believe agriculture also needs a reset.”

He emphasised the need to advance in fish, poultry, and horticulture, noting that businesses must maintain transparency and fair profit margins.
“As businesspeople, we will buy fish from one place, sell it elsewhere, and earn a reasonable profit in the process. When we make excessive profit, journalists will hold us accountable—and that is how a responsible and prosperous Bangladesh will emerge,” he said.

Highlighting the importance of collective farming, the PRAN-RFL chief noted the transformation of Thailand’s agriculture over the past three decades.
“Thirty years ago, Thailand’s agricultural status was similar to Bangladesh’s. But their political landscape changed significantly, leading to major improvements in agriculture. With collective efforts and proper guidance, Bangladesh can achieve similar progress,” he added.
