Dr. Jasim Joins as Dean of Social Sciences at SUST
Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin of the Department of Sociology at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) has been appointed as the new Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences.
The announcement was confirmed through an official order signed by the university’s Registrar, Syed Salim Mohammad Abdul Kadir, on Wednesday, November 12.
According to the notice, “Professor Dr. Mohammad Jasim Uddin of the Department of Sociology has been appointed Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at SUST under Sections 28(5) and (6) of the University Act for a term of two years, effective from the date of joining. He will be entitled to allowances and other benefits as per the rules. The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority.”
Professor Jasim earned his PhD from the University of Helsinki in 2013. Prior to this appointment, he served as the Head of the Department of Sociology and as a member of the Academic Council, among other administrative roles.
Expressing his feelings upon receiving the new responsibility, Professor Jasim said, “I aim to transform the departments under the Faculty of Social Sciences into research-oriented disciplines. I hope to utilize my previous experience as a department head to strengthen collaboration between teachers and students and take the faculty forward. I seek everyone’s cooperation in this endeavor.”
