Robotics Regional Round Raises Curtain in Chattogram

The curtain has risen on this year’s World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh Regional 2025 through the Chattogram regional round. The first regional event of WROBD 2025 was held at the renowned Chattogram Independent University (CIU), with the participation of nearly 50 contestants.

In the Future Innovators Senior Category, the winners were two teams: the three-member team Maverick Nexus and the two-member team Noretic Nexus.

In the Future Innovators Junior Category, the winning teams were the three-member The Innovators and Zeda 2025. In the Robo Mission Junior Category, the three-member team Robo Solver emerged victorious. Altogether, 14 teams, including the winning ones, were selected for the national stage.

Professor Dr. M. M. Nurul Absar, Vice-Chancellor of CIU, announced the winners and distributed the prizes. The Olympiad is jointly organized by the World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh (WROBD) and the Bangladesh Open Source Network (BdOSN).

This marks the first time the competition is being organized at the regional level, allowing students from different cities across the country to participate locally, from where they will be selected for the national round. The regional competitions are being held in three cities—Chattogram, Dhaka, and Rangpur. The winners of these rounds will compete in the national competition, scheduled for September.

This year’s World Robot Olympiad Bangladesh Regional features several categories of competition: Future Innovators, Future Engineers, Robo Mission, and Robo Sports.

The contests are divided into three divisions: Elementary (ages 8–12), Junior (11–15), and Senior (14–19). In the Chattogram regional round, 14 teams competed in the Future Innovators category, including nine senior teams and five junior teams; two teams competed in the Robo Mission category, one junior and one senior; and two teams in the Senior division of the Future Engineers category.

The event’s chief guest was CIU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. M. M. Nurul Absar. Special guests included Dr. Asif Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering, and Registrar Anjuman Banu Lima. The overall program was coordinated by mentors, coordinators, and volunteers of WROBD.

The panel of judges comprised Professor Dr. Asif Iqbal, Dean of the School of Science and Engineering at CIU; Dr. Rubel Sen Gupta, Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Dr. Md. Sazzatul Islam, Head of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering; Assistant Professor Atikur Rahman; Lecturers Habibur Rahman and Samia Munthaha; Ayman Iktidar; and Dr. Saifuddin Munna, Associate Professor at Premier University’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2025 will be held in Singapore in November, where Bangladesh’s national team will participate. Since 2020, Bangladesh has been competing regularly in the Olympiad, achieving notable successes each year. In addition, various activation workshops have been held across the country’s eight divisions to inform students about robotics and the Olympiad and encourage participation.
