The Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) hosted “BME Beats 2025” on Thursday, July 10, at the university’s central auditorium.

The event commenced with a vibrant rally featuring students and faculty members, followed by a ceremonial cake-cutting to mark the official inauguration. The Vice-Chancellor of CUET, Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, inaugurated the conference and addressed the seminar titled "Photonics for Emerging Applications in Biomedical Imaging and Sensing".

In his keynote speech, the Vice-Chancellor remarked, “Biomedical Engineering serves as a bridge between medicine and engineering. It applies engineering principles to solve various challenges in medical science and biology. Through technological intervention, this field contributes to healthcare enhancement, diagnostic improvements, and overall ease of human life. Continuous efforts in research on diseases, development of medical equipment, invention of effective diagnostic techniques, artificial prosthetic designing, and healthcare quality enhancement are integral to this discipline. To streamline the country’s healthcare sector, departments like Biomedical Engineering are crucial. I believe CUET’s BME Department will continue to make significant contributions in education and research in the days ahead.”

The keynote speaker at the seminar was Professor Dr. Kazi Tanvir Ahmed from the Department of EEE, University of Chittagong. Special guest speakers included Professor Dr. Kazi Delowar Hossain, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering at CUET; Engineer Manzare Khorshed Alam, Chairman of IEB Chattogram Center; and Engineer S.M.
