A new module has been integrated into the iBAS++ system to fully digitize and automate fund withdrawals, deposits, and financial transactions between 72 key post offices and the central treasury. The government believes the implementation of this module will enhance transparency, timeliness, and accuracy within the public accounting system.
The initiative was inaugurated on Tuesday, July 1, at the Post Office Building in Agargaon by Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb, Special Assistant in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology under the Chief Adviser’s Office. The launch took place during a workshop titled “Supply of Funds and Other Remittance Transactions of Bangladesh Post,” where officials asserted that the module marks significant progress toward implementing the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) and the Treasury Single Account framework.
The event was presided over by Dr. Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder, Secretary of the Finance Division, and attended by key stakeholders including Bilkis Jahan Rimi (Additional Secretary, Budget 1), Sirajun Noor Chowdhury (Additional Secretary, Budget and Macroeconomics), Comptroller General of Accounts SM Rezvi, and Director General of the Postal Department SM Shahabuddin.
Speaking as the chief guest, Faiz Ahmad Taiyeb said, “If we can consolidate all iBAS modules into a single super app, it will become even more effective. We want to accommodate the companies under the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and IT through iBAS. We will center the evaluation plan of iBAS around the Digital Transformation Master Plan and Data Governance Authority. When financial organizations transact with non-financial or non-revenue sector institutions, they must maintain standards.”
He further added, “The postal department is a very old government institution with a manual accounting structure. It must now be digitally structured through iBAS.”
Taiyeb also proposed organizing training in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and stated, “Infrastructure like iBAS++ should be declared as Critical Information Infrastructure (CII). Doing so would provide it protection under the Cyber Safety Ordinance. Additionally, we can develop a dashboard to monitor real-time transactions and accounting KPIs, which will help us track success rates.”
