National Conference at JUST Explores Scientific Approaches to Health and Sporting Success
The Department of Physical Education and Sports Science (PESS) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted its first-ever National Conference on "Harnessing Science for Health and Sporting Success" on Monday, June 23. The event was held at the university’s central gallery and brought together faculty members and students from various universities and national sports institutions across the country.
The conference aimed to explore the integration of science into everyday health practices and athletic performance, while also fostering collaboration among institutions to promote innovation and international competitiveness in sports.
The event’s Chief Guest, JUST Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, praised the gathering of students from multiple universities under one roof, stating that it would “enhance communication skills, foster knowledge exchange, and encourage innovative thinking.” He added, “Our goal is to make education time-relevant and research impactful. With effective research, we can tackle global challenges more easily.”
Addressing the students, the Vice Chancellor urged them to become competent professionals by transforming their everyday lifestyles and embracing health consciousness. “You must shape yourselves into internationally competitive athletes,” he said. “If we as a nation can transform into a skilled workforce, that in itself will be the greatest revolution. Your ultimate goal should be building global competency, and through that, you can lead the nation to a new direction.”
Joining virtually as the keynote speaker, Professor Dr. Alok Kumar Banerjee, former Vice Chancellor of Kalyani University in West Bengal, India, highlighted the significance of scientific implementation in achieving excellence in health and sports. He shared in-depth research findings and development insights through a detailed slide presentation.
Following the inaugural session, the conference proceeded with a poster presentation, featuring participants from Daffodil University, Islamic University, Khulna University, and others. Later, a technical session was held, followed by a workshop on “Harnessing Science for Health and Sporting Success” at 3:00 PM, led by Dr. Shahidul Islam Jewel of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology.
The conference concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony at 4:00 PM, where winners of the poster presentation were also awarded.
Among the special guests were Professor Dr. Hossain Al Mamun, JUST Treasurer, and Professor Dr. Md. Zafirul Islam, Dean of the Faculty of Health Science. Additional remarks were given by Professor Dr. Md. Nasim Reza, Chair of the PESS Department and convener of the conference.
Also in attendance were Associate Professor Dr. Shaibal Chand, Assistant Professor Dr. Md. Hamidur Rahman, Lecturer Md. Arman Gazi, and Lecturer Md. Iman Ali from the PESS department. The event was moderated by students Shreya Bhowmik and Farzana Rahman.
