The Eid release ‘Utsab’, one of the most critically acclaimed films of the season, recently held a special screening arranged by its producer and OTT platform, Chorki. Despite receiving formal invitations and arriving at the venue on time, journalists found no seats allocated for them inside the cinema hall.

This incident led to confusion and, reportedly, discourteous behavior toward members of the press at the venue.

In response, the Bangladesh Cholochitra Sangbadik Samity (BACHSAS) strongly condemned what it described as unprofessional and insulting conduct by Chorki. According to BACHSAS, such treatment toward entertainment journalists—who play a pivotal role in promoting films—constitutes a clear act of disrespect toward the entire media community.

On Friday, June 20, BACHSAS issued an official statement signed by its President Kamrul Hasan Darpan and General Secretary Rahat Saiful, denouncing Chorki’s "shameful and reprehensible behavior."

The statement reads: “Since the inception of cinema in Bangladesh, entertainment journalists have relentlessly contributed to the growth and development of the industry. BACHSAS has long served as a bridge between the world of film and culture. We are increasingly concerned to witness growing trends of discourtesy and coercive conduct by some filmmakers, producers, and artists toward the media, which hampers journalistic freedom. This is unacceptable under any circumstances."

The statement continues: “Filmmakers, producers, artists, crew members, and journalists are complementary to each other in promoting the country’s culture. Therefore, mutual cooperation and respectful behavior are essential. We expect Chorki and all other concerned parties to ensure that such inappropriate and insulting behavior is never repeated.”

‘Utsab’ has not only released in Bangladesh but has also premiered in multiplexes across the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, highlighting the film’s growing global footprint.

The film features a stellar ensemble cast including Zahid Hasan, Jaya Ahsan, Chanchal Chowdhury, Aupi Karim, Tariq Anam Khan, Intekhab Dinar, Sadia Ayman, and Soumya Jyoti, among others.
