Physiotherapy Promotion Prioritized at National Conference at JUST

With the aim of raising awareness among students and enhancing their professional skills through in-depth discussion on the significance, application, and challenges of physiotherapy in Bangladesh, the Department of Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation (PTR) at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) hosted the first-ever national conference titled “Promotion of Evidence-Based Physiotherapy Through Multidisciplinary Healthcare in Bangladesh.”
The daylong event, held at the university’s central gallery, was inaugurated by JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Majid, who graced the occasion as the chief guest.
In his opening remarks, Professor Majid stated, “The healthcare sector in our country remains neglected and faces numerous challenges. A large portion of our population is poor and lives in rural areas, making it difficult for them to access timely and appropriate healthcare services. It is imperative for everyone in the healthcare profession to take this matter seriously and work sincerely from their respective positions to ensure that quality healthcare reaches the right patient at the right time.” He further urged students to build competence and commitment in their professions to achieve service excellence.
Professor Majid added, “I envision quality healthcare services for the people of this country. To support this vision, I intend to establish a modern training and testing center in Jashore city that will contribute to practical learning in nursing, physiotherapy, genome research, molecular biology analysis, and more. Without fundamental changes in the education and healthcare sectors, the success of the July movement will not be realized.”
The keynote address was delivered by Professor Dr. Md. Sohrab Hossain, Executive Director of the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) and academic at BPHPI. Other distinguished speakers included Professor Dr. Muhammad Anwar Hossain, President of BPPMMA Dr. Mohammad Shahadat Hossain, Director at the Directorate General of Health Services Dr. Syed Kamrul Islam, and Additional Director General Dr. Sheikh Saidul Haque.
The conference was presided over by Dr. Ehsanur Rahman, Chairman of the PTR department, who also delivered the welcome address.
The first session of the conference featured student presentations from the PTR department. This was followed by an afternoon training workshop. At 4:30 PM, a certificate distribution ceremony was held for all participants, along with prize distribution for outstanding presenters.
