Smart Card: Govt Approves Over Tk 406 Cr for Blank Cards for EC
The government has approved a proposal to procure blank smart cards worth Tk 4,064,999,840 for the Election Commission (EC).
The approval came during a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Economic Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, held at the Cabinet Division’s conference room at the Secretariat on Tuesday, May 20.
According to meeting sources, the proposal was cleared under the project titled ‘Identification System for Enhancing Services (IDEA) – Phase II’, specifically under package number GD-16.1, for the procurement of blank smart cards intended for the Bangladesh Election Commission.
As per procurement guidelines, the cards will be purchased directly from Bangladesh Machine Tools Factory Limited (BMTF), a state-run organization operated by the Bangladesh Army.
The total cost of the procurement has been estimated at Tk 4,064,999,840.
