Global Groundswell: Protests Target Trump and Tesla’s Musk

In a coordinated global movement, over 1,300 protests have been staged against U.S. President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. The "Hands Off!" demonstrations were organized by a coalition exceeding 150 groups, including civil rights organizations, labor unions, and LGBTQ+ advocates. Protesters accuse Trump and Musk of orchestrating a "billionaire takeover" of governmental functions, citing extensive layoffs of federal employees, reductions in health and social services, stringent immigration policies, and diminished protections for transgender individuals.

The protests, which spanned all 50 U.S. states and several international locations, represent one of the largest coordinated efforts since Trump's initial term, drawing comparisons to the 2017 Women's March and Black Lives Matter demonstrations. In response, Musk dismissed the protests on social media, suggesting that participants were being manipulated. The White House reiterated President Trump's commitment to restructuring the federal government.

These developments occur amid escalating economic concerns following President Trump's imposition of sweeping tariffs on imports from nearly 90 countries. The tariffs have led to significant market volatility, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average dropping by 3,910 points over two days, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq each declining by nearly 6%, erasing approximately $6.6 trillion in market value. CNBC host Jim Cramer has warned of a potential market crash reminiscent of "Black Monday" in 1987, urging the administration to reconsider its tariff strategy.

Furthermore, Deutsche Bank has cautioned that the continuation of these tariff policies could destabilize global trade relationships and potentially lead to a recession. Economists project GDP growth to fall below 1%, with unemployment approaching 5% and inflation nearing 4%.

In light of these economic and political tensions, the "Hands Off!" protests underscore the growing public dissent against the current administration's policies and the perceived consolidation of power among wealthy elites.
