Huawei's Resurgence: Tech Innovations Drive Strong Revenue Growth

After years of struggle, Chinese tech giant Huawei is making a strong comeback to profitability. The company’s resurgence has been fueled by advancements in software, chip manufacturing, and smart driving technology, according to a Reuters report.

Near-Record Revenue in 2024

In 2024, Huawei generated 860 billion yuan ($118 billion) in revenue, nearing its all-time high of 891 billion yuan in 2020. Previously, the company had been operating in "survival mode" due to U.S. sanctions that led to chip supply shortages and declining consumer product revenue.

Overcoming Sanctions Through Innovation

To counter these challenges, Huawei focused on alternative technologies, strengthened partnerships with local Chinese firms, and developed its own HarmonyOS operating system to reduce reliance on foreign technology. Additionally, the company has worked toward self-sufficiency in chip production.

Growth in Smart Driving and Smartphone Sales

Huawei has also made significant progress in autonomous driving technology. Sales of vehicles under its AITO brand, developed in collaboration with Dongfeng Motor, have tripled over the past year. Meanwhile, smartphone sales increased by 25%, marking a strong recovery in the consumer electronics sector.

Global Expansion with Challenges Ahead

While Huawei is striving to regain its competitive position in international markets, its lack of full Android access continues to hinder growth in Western markets. However, the company is strengthening its presence in data infrastructure sectors across regions like the Middle East, where demand for its technology remains strong.
