OpenAI Opens Access: ChatGPT Search Now Available Without Sign-In

OpenAI has announced that users will no longer be required to sign in to access its AI-powered search engine. In a statement released on Wednesday, the company stated that this update would make ChatGPT even more accessible, The Verge reported.
ChatGPT Search will provide answers based on information gathered from the web while also displaying relevant sources. Initially, the search feature was launched exclusively for paid ChatGPT subscribers in October. It was later made available to all users in December. However, by allowing access without an account, OpenAI has now positioned itself in direct competition with search giants like Google and Bing.
Meanwhile, AI-driven search engine Perplexity also offers web search functionality without requiring sign-in. Recently, it introduced a new feature that provides hotel information and ratings directly through TripAdvisor.
With this latest update, ChatGPT Search’s interface has become more akin to traditional search engines, now offering maps, images, and brief descriptions of local attractions.
