Meta is set to pilot new premium subscription services for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp. In a statement to TechCrunch on Monday, the company said that the subscriptions will offer users access to select exclusive features, enhanced productivity and creativity tools, as well as additional artificial intelligence–powered capabilities. Meta clarified that the core services on all three platforms will remain free as before.

Over the coming months, Meta plans to introduce distinct premium experiences across the three platforms. The company said the subscription features will vary from app to app, with multiple features and package options being tested. As part of the subscription strategy, Meta also intends to expand the use of its recently acquired AI agent, “Manus.”

According to Meta, the premium version of Instagram may allow users to create unlimited audience lists, see who is not following them back, and view stories without notifying the content creator. In addition, the company is considering a freemium model for its AI-powered video creation feature, “Vibes.”

Meta said the new subscriptions will be separate from “Meta Verified” and will be rolled out gradually, taking into account the needs of general users, content creators and businesses.
