CUET VC Highlights Role of Research in National Progress
The Vice-Chancellor of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), Professor Dr. Mahmud Abdul Matin Bhuiyan, has emphasized the critical role of faculty research in contributing to the nation’s overall development. “Research conducted by teachers generates new knowledge and technological innovations, which play a pivotal role in economic, social, and overall progress, helping to build an advanced nation,” he stated.
He pointed out the challenges faced by researchers, including inadequate research funding, lack of necessary infrastructure and facilities, the burden of administrative duties, and limited research publications. “Despite these challenges, we must forge ahead,” he remarked.
Professor Bhuiyan made these comments as the chief guest at the “Project Completion Acknowledgment 2024, Best Research Publication Award 2023, and Research & Extension Directorate Research Project Award (2024–2025)” program. The event, organized by CUET’s Directorate of Research and Extension, took place on Monday (January 20, 2025) at the university’s Academic Council Hall.
In his speech, he further added, “Through research, teachers enhance their knowledge and skills, enabling them to deliver better in classrooms. This makes the process of education more engaging for students, fostering a greater interest in learning. Research also helps develop problem-solving skills, which in turn empowers students to tackle challenges effectively. By addressing local, national, and global issues, research leads to continual improvements in solutions. Moreover, knowledge gained from research supports policymakers in formulating effective strategies. Teachers’ research can guide the government and various organizations in drafting appropriate policies.”
The program was attended by special guests, including Dr. Sudip Kumar Pal, Dean of Civil and Environmental Engineering Faculty; Dr. Mohammad Shamsul Arefin, Dean of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty; Dr. Kazi Afzalur Rahman, Dean of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering Faculty; and Dr. Muhammad Rashidul Hasan, Dean of Architecture and Planning Faculty. The event was presided over by Dr. Sajal Chandra Banik, Director of the Directorate of Research and Extension, and hosted by Kazi Kamrun Nahar Anannya, Lecturer of the Nuclear Engineering Department.
CUET’s Directorate of Research and Extension awarded 39 research projects in total, out of which 19 have been completed. The program concluded with the distribution of four Best Research Publication Awards.
