Bangladesh Bank has officially introduced the 'Bangla QR' code for person-to-person (P2P) transactions, enabling touchless and paperless fund transfers starting Sunday (November 1, 2026). According to a central bank press release, this new addition to the nation's digital payment ecosystem allows individuals to transfer funds securely, swiftly, and effortlessly by simply scanning another person's QR code.

Under this system, users will no longer need to manually type or enter the recipient's mobile number or account number. Scanning the designated QR code automatically verifies the required information and completes the transaction. The central bank believes this initiative will make transaction systems more inclusive while significantly accelerating the expansion of a cashless economy.

Previously, Bangladesh Bank noted that P2P Bangla QR transactions support direct fund transfers from bank accounts to bank accounts, MFS to MFS, as well as cross-transfers between bank accounts and MFS accounts. The Bangla QR application integrates commercial banks, financial institutions, Payment Service Providers (PSPs), Payment Service Operators (PSOs), and MFS providers into a unified interoperable network
