TikTok Videos from Madrasa Farewell Spark Criticism in Satkania
Several TikTok videos recorded during a farewell programme for Dakhil examinees at Bajalia Hedayatul Islam Fazil Degree Madrasa in Satkania have gone viral on social media, triggering widespread criticism across the upazila. The videos reportedly show unrestricted mingling among students and inappropriate gestures, leading to allegations that the institution’s long-standing reputation and religious dignity have been undermined.
In response to the incident, a memorandum was submitted to the madrasa principal on Sunday, April 19, at around 2:00 pm by the Chattogram South district unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir. Present during the submission were the organization’s district publicity and media secretary Habibullah Faisal, madrasa affairs secretary Shariful Islam, and Satkania North thana president Monjur Moula Qayes, along with several teacher representatives from the madrasa’s governing body.
The memorandum stated that such behavior is completely inconsistent with the values and ideals of a religious educational institution and has caused serious concern among conscious members of society. The organization presented a six-point demand, including a proper investigation into the ঘটনা, identification of those responsible, formulation of strict guidelines for future programme arrangements, and ensuring effective monitoring to prevent unrestricted interaction among students. They also proposed organizing awareness programs involving teachers and guardians to strengthen students’ morality and Islamic values.
Madrasa principal Nurul Alam confirmed receiving the memorandum and said that the matter was brought to attention immediately. Guardians of the accused students have already been informed. He added that a final and strict decision will be taken soon following discussions in a meeting of the madrasa’s governing body.
