To ensure advanced, tech-driven, and multi-disciplinary treatment for patients suffering from liver malignancies, Bangladesh Medical University (BMU) has officially inaugurated its specialized 'Liver Cancer Clinic'. Integrating expert workflows across more than six clinical departments, the dedicated clinic will streamline early diagnosis, digital imaging assessment, precise cancer staging, personalized treatment protocol selection, and post-therapeutic monitoring. On Thursday (October 15, 2026), BMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui formally inaugurated the facility at a ceremony held at Shahid Dr. Milton Hall in Dhaka.

Organized by the Department of Hepatology in collaboration with the BMU Hepatology Alumni Association, the event also marked 'Liver Cancer Awareness Month 2026' with a high-level scientific seminar. The ceremony was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Shahinul Alam, Chairman of the Department of Hepatology, with former Chairman Professor Dr. Nuruuddin Ahmad attending as special guest. Associate Professor Dr. S. K. M. Nazmul Hasan moderated the proceedings.

In his chief guest address, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. F. M. Siddiqui stated, “Liver cancer represents a critical public health challenge. Clinical outcomes can be significantly enhanced by implementing proactive prevention, systematic screening for high-risk cohorts, early-stage detection, and timely multi-disciplinary interventions.” He stressed the importance of incorporating modern biomedical research and inter-departmental collaboration into oncology workflows.

The Vice-Chancellor added, “Bangladesh Medical University continues to play a pivotal role in advancing medical education, specialized healthcare, and clinical research. Operating on a pilot basis since August 2026, the formal launch of this Liver Cancer Clinic under the Department of Hepatology is a commendable initiative. It will consolidate patient care while opening up new avenues for data-driven clinical research in Bangladesh.”

During the scientific session, key research papers on advanced liver cancer therapeutics were presented by Professor Dr. Syed Akram Hossain, Chairman of the Department of Clinical Oncology at BMU; Professor Dr. Biswajit Bhowmik of the Department of Radiology and Imaging; and Associate Professor Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman Noor of the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery at Enam Medical College. Discussions covered the clinical roles of Locoregional Therapy, Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy (SBRT), surgical resection techniques, and modern protocols in liver transplantation.

A dedicated segment highlighted the operational progress of the 'Liver Cancer Registry'. Specialists emphasized that tracking epidemiological data through this registry will prove vital for mapping risk demographics, disease prevalence, and long-term treatment efficacy across the country.

The seminar brought together faculty members, clinical researchers, and residents across hepatology, radiology, oncology, and surgery. Notable attendees included Professor Dr. Bidhan Chandra Das, Professor Dr. Md. Golam Azam, Professor Dr. ABM Shakil Goni, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Faruq, Professor Dr. Abdullah Al Mahmud, Professor Dr. Md. Fazlul Karim, Professor Dr. Md. Mohsen Chowdhury, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Asaduzzaman, Associate Professor Dr. Md. Khalekuzzaman, Dr. Saif Uddin Nisar Ahmed, and Dr. Md. Saiful Islam Elin.  //DBTech/IMN/SMP/OEM//
