Apple could be preparing a major change to its laptop lineup, with its first touchscreen MacBook potentially debuting this October alongside an OLED iPad mini and refreshed Mac devices powered by the M6 chip. However, the company has yet to officially confirm the launch dates, product names or specifications.

According to Bloomberg technology journalist Mark Gurman, Apple’s long-awaited first touchscreen laptop could make its debut on or around October 27. While the exact launch date remains uncertain, technology news outlet Engadget noted that reports have rarely offered such a specific timeline for the device.

A New Touchscreen MacBook Experience

Speculation about a touchscreen version of Apple’s high-end laptops began in 2023. More details have emerged since then through reports by Gurman.

The upcoming device is expected to feature a dynamic interface capable of adapting to different input methods. It could be called the “MacBook Ultra,” although Apple has not officially confirmed the name.

According to the reports, the laptop could use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, similar to those powering current high-end MacBook Pro models. Earlier reports had suggested that the new M6 chip would not have a Pro variant.

OLED iPad Mini and M6-Powered Macs

Alongside the touchscreen laptop, Apple may introduce several other devices in October. The anticipated lineup includes a redesigned iPad mini with an OLED display, an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro and a minor refresh of the iMac. The updated Mac devices could feature the new M6 chip.

The current entry-level MacBook Pro uses the M5 chip, while the iMac is powered by the M4. The reports also point to the Mac mini refresh as the first product to feature the M6 chip.

More Products May Arrive on October 13

The anticipated October event may not be Apple’s only product launch this month. The company could unveil a collection of new smart-home gadgets earlier, on October 13.

Apple has yet to officially announce the launch schedule, names, specifications or availability of the touchscreen laptop, OLED iPad mini and M6-powered Mac devices.
