- A 322kW solar power plant has opened at Lakshmi Cold Storage
- Lakshmi Preserves invested Tk 12.5 million in the project
- Surplus electricity during the off-season will be supplied to the national grid
A 322-kilowatt solar power plant has been commissioned in Thakurgaon, enabling a cold storage facility to meet its own electricity needs and supply surplus power to the national grid during the off-season. The project was installed at a cost of Tk 12.5 million, using the company’s own funds.
District Commissioner Md Rafiqul Haque inaugurated the facility on Saturday morning, October 10, at Lakshmi Cold Storage in Rahimanpur Union, Thakurgaon Sadar Upazila.
Organizers said the initiative aims to reduce energy consumption costs and encourage wider use of renewable energy.
The inauguration ceremony was chaired by Ashraful Alam Khan, general manager of Thakurgaon Palli Bidyut Samity. Other attendees included Imran Kabir, assistant commissioner of the land acquisition branch of the Thakurgaon district administration; engineer Lutful Hasan Sarker, deputy general manager of the rural electricity cooperative; and Mofizul Islam, assistant director of Lakshmi Preserves Private Limited.
Speaking at the event, Mofizul Islam said the 322kW solar power station would enable the company to meet its own electricity requirements. During the off-season, when cold storage operations are limited, the electricity generated by the system will be supplied to the national grid.
Lakshmi Preserves Private Limited installed the solar panels with technical and overall support from Thakurgaon Palli Bidyut Samity. The company financed the project at a total cost of Tk 12.5 million.
The project is expected to expand solar energy use in the storage sector while creating an opportunity to supply surplus electricity to the national grid.
