Enforcing end-to-end identity authentication across railway operations, the Sylhet District Administration conducted an extensive inspection at Sylhet Railway Station on the night of 08 October, Thursday. Concluding the operational sweep, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun announced that starting 12 October, commuters will be barred from boarding trains if the nominal credentials on reservations fail to match their physical National Identity Cards (NID).

The field intervention was directed personally by Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun alongside four executive magistrates across passenger platforms and ticketing gates. The administrative team detected systematic anomalies within ticketing channels and identified several passengers carrying transit tickets containing passenger records conflicting with their presented national identity credentials.

Announcing enforcement protocols, Deputy Commissioner Abdullah Al Mamun emphasized that effective 12 October, passengers traveling from Sylhet to Dhaka or onward destinations must carry matching electronic tickets and state identity cards to clear platform checkpoints. A transition window of three to four days has been allocated to allow the traveling public to comply with ticketing rules before mobile courts deploy around-the-clock station inspections.

Identity screening initiatives were previously instituted at the station by former Deputy Commissioner Sarwar Alam, though inspections lapsed following his transfer, permitting scalpers to exploit ticketing channels. The operational resurgence follows a suo motu legal suit filed by Senior Judicial Magistrate Abdullah Al Noman (CR Case 01/2026) on 22 September. Following the transfer of case files to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) on 01 October, the district administration mobilized on-ground checks to secure electronic reservations against unauthorized commercial trading. //DBTech/SCJN/SME/BPO//
