High-Level Bilateral Talks Held In Moscow
Rosatom Fast-Tracks Grid Synchronization For Rooppur
- Experimental grid connection from the VVER-1200 reactor core promised within the shortest timeline
- Commissioning and preliminary start-up procedures for unit two scheduled to commence next year
- Total twenty-four hundred megawatt infrastructure slated to supply eleven percent of national electricity
Accelerating base-load energy security through nuclear engineering and advanced fission technology, Bangladesh and Russia held high-level bilateral consultations in Moscow on 9 October, Friday. Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam met with Alexey Likhachev, Director General of the Russian State Atomic Energy Corporation, Rosatom, to establish concrete deployment targets for the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.
The bilateral dialogue focused extensively on technical assessments, system-level operational milestones, and definitive commercial synchronization schedules for the first generation-three-plus nuclear facility in Bangladesh.
Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev stated that trial electrical synchronization from the VVER-1200 reactor core into the national transmission grid will be completed within the shortest feasible operational timeframe. He added that the facility remains pivotal in shielding Bangladesh against global energy volatility by generating cost-effective, low-carbon baseload electricity.
During the technical exchange, Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam emphasized that the 2,400 MW twin-unit facility will meet approximately 11 percent of aggregate domestic electricity consumption upon full deployment.
Providing developmental timelines for subsequent stages, Alexey Likhachev revealed that official commissioning alongside preliminary start-up sequences for the second reactor unit will begin next year. The discussions also evaluated long-term expansions of nuclear energy infrastructure, bilateral knowledge transfers, and future strategic reactor deployments. //DBTech/MAM/SME/DPO//
