IDEB Objects to JU Recruitment Notice

The Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) has objected to Jahangirnagar University’s recruitment notice allowing both diploma holders and BSc engineering graduates to apply for the post of Sub-Assistant Engineer (Civil). The organization has demanded that the eligibility criteria be revised and a fresh recruitment notice be issued, limiting applications for the post to diploma engineers.
On Monday, September 28, a letter signed by Engineer Md. Kabir Hossain, convener of IDEB’s interim central committee, was sent to the acting registrar of Jahangirnagar University on behalf of more than 800,000 engineer members.
According to the press release, the university’s recruitment notice allows both diploma holders and graduates with BSc Engineering degrees to apply for the 10th-grade Sub-Assistant Engineer (Civil) post. IDEB claims that the provision conflicts with existing government laws and directives.
The organization referred to a Ministry of Public Administration memorandum issued on November 19, 1994, under the order of the President, as well as a Ministry of Finance memorandum dated December 3, 1994. According to IDEB, these documents designate 10th-grade Sub-Assistant Engineer and equivalent posts exclusively for holders of Diploma in Engineering certificates issued by the Bangladesh Technical Education Board.
IDEB also cited a 1978 Ministry of Finance notification, saying it establishes an obligation for government departments and agencies across the country to use the uniform designation of Sub-Assistant Engineer for diploma engineers.
IDEB leaders alleged that the university’s decision, which they say disregards government directives, has caused dissatisfaction among 800,000 diploma engineers and 400,000 students across the country. They demanded immediate correction of item 10 of the recruitment notice and publication of a revised notice allowing only diploma engineers from the technical education system to apply for the Sub-Assistant Engineer (Civil) position.
The organization warned that failure to publish a revised notice could lead to significant dissatisfaction across the engineering community.
