Sarjis Alam, Chief Organiser (Northern Region) of the National Citizens Party (NCP), has said that signs of an Awami League return in December can be seen in two places—social media and possibly India.

He made the remarks while responding to questions from journalists after an NCP organizational coordination meeting at the auditorium of the Brahmanbaria District Shilpakala Academy at around 8:30pm on Saturday, August 29.

Sarjis Alam said, “There is no possibility of any wind of the Awami League returning to Bangladesh. In an independent and sovereign territory, a perpetrator of genocide, a killer, a death-row convict or any convicted accused cannot return.”

Referring to the energy crisis, Sarjis Alam said, “If the finance minister and the energy minister say that the power and gas problems have gone out of control, then every minister associated with these sectors should resign. There is no benefit in blaming only one minister. Prime Minister Tarek Rahman cannot in any way evade this responsibility. If he sees that a minister is unable to run his ministry properly, then he must remove that minister. If, instead of doing that, he keeps the minister in office and continues to watch this drama of failure, then you cannot evade this responsibility.”

Criticizing the law-and-order situation, he said, “The home minister should pay a little attention to his ministry. He is currently actually working as the prime minister’s proxy. But in doing so, he is unable to pay attention to one of the most important ministries of the state, the Home Ministry. We would urge him to pay attention to his Home Ministry.”

The meeting was chaired by Jahangir Alam, convener of the NCP Brahmanbaria district committee. NCP central joint conveners Sarowar Tushar and Ashraf Uddin Mahdi, and Central Chhatra Shakti convener Baker Majumdar, among others, spoke as special guests.
