Pressenza International Press Agency has officially launched the 2026 English-language edition of its 'Nonviolent Journalism' course via an online Zoom meeting. Hosted by Tony Robinson from London, UK, the introductory session brought together 55 participants from across the Americas, Europe, Africa, and Asia.

The meeting opened with a solemn moment of reflection led by Tony Robinson for those affected by the recent natural disaster in Nepal and China. Prayers and best wishes were extended to local communities as well as international tourists and pilgrims impacted by the tragedy.

Sheikh Mohammad Arif, Biozid Jessorey, Shaon Shanto, Shahid Mahfuz, MD Siyam Saklain, and Md. Samin Yeasar, members of Pressenza Bangladesh's editorial board, along with S. M. Imdadul Haq, Executive Editor of Digibangla, were directly connected from Bangladesh during the event. During his speech, Biozid Jessorey noted that many registered participants could not join online due to severe power outages and load shedding in Bangladesh. However, provisions were made to provide recorded videos and session summaries/content using Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology for those unable to attend.

At the beginning of the event, Pressenza representative and host Tony Robinson expressed deep sorrow over the recent severe natural disasters and loss of life on the Nepal and China borders. Special prayers and well wishes were offered for the safety of local residents, as well as tourists and pilgrims from various countries present there. Javier Tolcachier from Argentina, David Meléndez from Chile, Antonio Carvallo from the UK, and Miss Helga from Germany, among others, participated in this virtual course.

Tony Robinson highlighted that Pressenza, founded in 2009 in Quito, Ecuador, operates as a 100% volunteer-driven news agency dedicated to human rights, ecology, and global peace. The upcoming 12-week program will officially begin on September 3, featuring six bi-weekly two-hour workshops alongside dedicated mentorship sessions. Students will gain insights into nonviolent reporting techniques, ethical data handling, avoiding media bias, and adhering to digital copyright policies. Upon successful completion, participants will build published portfolios on Pressenza's international platform.

About Pressenza and Nonviolent Journalism Principles: Founded in 2009 in Quito, Ecuador, to support the First World March for Peace and Nonviolence, Pressenza is a 100% volunteer-run, publicly funded independent news agency. It currently operates multi-lingual newsrooms worldwide in languages including Bengali, German, Greek, and Catalan.

The core framework of nonviolent journalism goes beyond superficial "feel-good" stories. It seeks to expose structural, economic, and psychological violence while centering human agency and dignity. In an era dominated by automated news algorithms and digital trends, nonviolent journalism reframes narratives to ensure human beings are not reduced to statistics, numbers, or standard stereotypes.

Course Structure & Copyright Policy: Beginning September 3, the 12-week online program consists of six bi-weekly interactive Zoom workshops divided into two primary modules:

    • Theoretical & Philosophical Module: Focuses on nonviolent methodology, human psychism, ethics, universalist humanism, and empathy.
    • Journalistic Practice Module: Covers news reporting, photo stories, interviews, opinion pieces, and responsible digital media production.

Participants will receive direct support from mentors during office hours and build a publishable portfolio on Pressenza’s international news platform. Furthermore, strict digital copyright guidelines were outlined to prevent the unauthorized use of online images and protect against legal risks.
