The Detective Cyber and Special Crime (North) Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested two active members of an organized cybercrime syndicate accused of embezzling large sums of money by advertising counterfeit and non-existent firearms online. The operational outcome was disclosed through an official DMP press release on Wednesday, 26 August 2026.

The suspects, identified as Md Akash Sheikh (23) and Ruman Sheikh (24), were apprehended during coordinated raids in Dhonda and Raghunathpur under Narail Sadar Police Station. Law enforcement personnel seized four mobile phones containing operational digital evidence used to orchestrate the fraudulent transactions.

According to Detective Branch (DB) cyber operatives, the ring managed a deceptive Facebook page named 'Sonali Pistol House Benapole', circulating promotional arms footage to solicit potential buyers. Communication was systematically transitioned to WhatsApp, where the fraudsters collected advance financial payments before severing digital links and blocking client communication vectors.

The illicit operation was intercepted during routine digital monitoring on Sunday. Leveraging advanced metadata analysis and tracking tools, cyber detectives identified the administrators' geographic location, executing the arrests on Monday night. A formal case has been registered with Ramna Model Police Station under the Cyber Security Act, and the suspects have been forwarded to court while follow-up operations continue to track downstream network accomplices.
