Bangladesh and Denmark have reinforced bilateral technical cooperation to deploy advanced water purification engineering and municipal waste processing solutions to tackle Dhaka's growing safe water demand. Danish Ambassador to Bangladesh Christian Brix Moller held a high-level meeting with Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan at the ministry's office on Tuesday, 25 August.
State Minister for Local Government Mir Shahe Alam was present during the discussion.
Congratulating the Minister on assuming his portfolio, Ambassador Moller reaffirmed Denmark's commitment to deepening development partnerships and technical knowledge transfer. Minister Dr. Abdul Moyeen Khan noted that Denmark's engineering expertise can drive transformative improvements in Bangladesh's municipal utilities, specifically identifying high-potential avenues for Danish investments in waste-to-energy conversion and water resource management systems.
The bilateral dialogue comprehensively reviewed the financing and engineering roadmap for the 'Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant Project (Phase-3)'. Under this initiative, the Danish Government will extend a total financial package of BDT 4,500 crore, comprising BDT 1,500 crore as direct grants and BDT 3,000 crore as soft concessional loans.
Briefing the media following the session, State Minister Mir Shahe Alam remarked, "Danish financial and engineering collaboration for the third phase of Sayedabad Water Treatment Plant is a major milestone for our urban infrastructure. Once completed, the facility will significantly mitigate potable water supply pressures across the capital without placing major fiscal strain on the national treasury."
Secretary of the Local Government Division Md. Shahidul Hasan, Dhaka WASA Managing Director Md. Aminul Islam, and senior ministerial and engineering officials attended the session.
