The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) has pledged to facilitate an additional $5 billion in US investments into the country over the next five years, signaling growing investor confidence in Bangladesh's economic trajectory.

The commitment was made during a high-level courtesy call on Prime Minister Tariq Rahman at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday. The AmCham executive delegation was led by its President and Mastercard Vice President, Syed Mohammad Kamal. Key government officials—including Commerce Minister Khondokar Abdul Muktadir, Telecommunications Advisor Rehan Asif Asad, and BIDA Executive Chairman Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun—were also present.

Key Policy Recommendations & Tech Focus
AmCham—whose member companies currently contribute over 20% of Bangladesh’s total tax revenue and have already invested $5 billion to date—emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation across several strategic domains:

Digital Governance & AI: Effective implementation of digital policies, cybersecurity capacity building, and enterprise adoption of AI and cloud computing.
Economic Reforms: Expedited licensing, launch of a single-window system, tax administration digitisation, streamlined capital/profit repatriation, and simplified customs procedures.
Energy & Health: Long-term policy clarity for renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, and healthcare modernization.

To ensure effective policy execution, AmCham proposed forming a Digital Economy Advisory Forum and a joint Public-Private Competitiveness Council to directly address business bottlenecks and drive investor trust.

Strategic Bilateral Vision
Highlighting the US-Bangladesh mutual trade arrangement as a vital strategic vehicle, AmCham called for a broad-based economic partnership that moves beyond basic market access to high-value technology and life sciences integration.

During the meeting, the delegation officially invited Prime Minister Tariq Rahman to inaugurate the upcoming 30th US Trade Show, jointly organized by AmCham and the US Embassy in Dhaka.

Welcoming the delegation, Prime Minister Tariq Rahman affirmed that Bangladesh has entered a new phase of economic transformation. He reassured foreign investors of full government support, emphasizing that executing current structural reforms, improving administrative efficiency, and providing long-term policy predictability remain top priorities for his administration.
