Total Solar Eclipse on August 12 Will Not Be Visible from Bangladesh

DHAKA, August 10, 2026: A rare total solar eclipse is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026. However, skywatchers in Bangladesh will miss the celestial spectacle as it will occur during nighttime locally, confirmed the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on Monday.
According to the BMD bulletin, the partial phases of the eclipse will begin at 9:34:18 PM BST on August 12. The central eclipse will start at 11:05:00 PM BST, peaking at maximum magnitude (1.08) at 12:48:48 AM BST on August 13.
Global Visibility and Path of Totality
The narrow 'path of totality' will trace across northern Russia, the Arctic Ocean, Greenland, western coastal regions of Iceland, and down into mainland Spain and Portugal.
- Total Eclipse Viewers: Key cities along totality include Reykjavík (Iceland), León, Zaragoza, and Valencia in Spain. In León, totality will begin at 8:28 PM local time and last approximately two minutes.
- Partial Eclipse Viewers: A partial eclipse will be visible across much of Europe, North America, and Northwest Africa. Sun coverage will reach 92% in Paris, 91% in London, 85% in Berlin, 96% in Algiers, and up to 53% in parts of Canada.
NASA has issued safety guidelines advising viewers within partial eclipse zones to strictly use ISO 12312-2 certified solar viewing glasses to prevent eye injury.
