Government Highlights Technology-Driven Public Service Initiatives
42.5 MW Power from Waste by 2026; 'Clean Care' App Launched for Waste Management
The government has taken a project to generate 42.5 MW of electricity daily using waste from Dhaka city, which is expected to feed the national grid by August 2028. Additionally, DSCCC has launched the 'Clean Care' app to modernize waste management.
The government is expanding the use of technology in public services, urban management and administrative processes through a series of digital initiatives, according to Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister Dr. Zahed Ur Rahman.
On Tuesday, 14 July, speaking at a regular government briefing at the Press Information Department, he said a waste-to-energy project using around 3,000 tonnes of municipal waste generated daily in Dhaka is expected to begin supplying 42.5 megawatts of electricity to the national grid by August 2028. The project is designed to generate electricity for 25 years, with facilities planned at Aminbazar and Matuail. China's CMEC Group will invest in the Aminbazar plant.
He also said Dhaka South City Corporation has launched Clean Care, a digital waste management platform that allows residents to submit complaints related to waste collection and sanitation while improving service monitoring.
Referring to the digital information environment, the adviser said court orders regarding the publication or broadcast of Sheikh Hasina's statements are judicial decisions rather than government policy. He added that anyone seeking to challenge such orders may do so through the courts.
Responding to a question on Sheikh Hasina's possible return, he said the government's priority is to ensure due judicial process, adding that any accused person would have the opportunity to defend themselves in court with legal representation.
On constitutional reform, he said amendments could be made through the parliamentary process and that issues such as a referendum, the formation of an upper house and differing political views should be debated in Parliament. He also encouraged opposition members to participate in the parliamentary committee discussions.
Principal Information Officer Syed Abdal Ahmed attended the briefing.
