Bangladesh to Become a Tech Hub by 2030: Rehan Asif Asad
Bangladesh aims to transform into a regional technology hub by 2030, according to Prime Minister’s Adviser on Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Rehan Asif Asad. The government plans to strengthen policy support and encourage private investment in the country’s digital economy.

He made the remarks while speaking as chief guest at the official launch event of Grameenphone’s 700 MHz spectrum held at a hotel in Dhaka on Sunday, June 14.
According to the adviser, the government wants to replicate in the digital consumer and ICT sectors the kind of growth and international competitiveness achieved by Bangladesh’s ready-made garments industry over the past four decades.
He said the government plans to extend similar policy incentives to the ICT sector over the next ten years and create an environment that attracts private sector participation and long-term investment.
Referring to taxation, he noted that while Bangladesh maintains a relatively low tax-to-GDP ratio overall, taxation in the telecom sector has remained comparatively high. He added that SIM tax has already been withdrawn to reduce direct costs on users, and stakeholder recommendations have been reflected in recent budget initiatives.
He also said Bangladesh has the potential to become the world’s ninth-largest consumer and telecom market by 2029, but achieving that target will require strong nationwide connectivity.
Among others, Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Major General (Retd.) Md. Emdad Ul Bari and Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman attended the event.
