New Outpatient Unit Launched with CSR Support in Dhaka

Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, MP, has inaugurated a new outpatient (OPD) treatment unit at Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute in Agargaon, the capital. The unit has been constructed by Beximco Pharmaceuticals PLC, one of the country’s leading pharmaceutical manufacturers.

The unit was inaugurated on Thursday, 2 April, at a brief ceremony held on the hospital premises. Present at the event were Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Board Chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital Dr. A K M Azizul Haque, Director of the hospital Professor Dr. Mahbubul Haque, Executive Director of icddr,b Professor Dr. Tahmeed Ahmed, along with senior government officials and representatives of Beximco Pharma.

The new outpatient unit is expected to expand the scope of medical services, particularly making healthcare more accessible for underprivileged patients.

Dr. A K M Azizul Haque, Board Chairman of Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute, praised Beximco Pharma’s CSR initiative, stating that the role of the private sector is very important in enhancing infrastructure and service capacity in the country’s healthcare sector.

Rabbur Reza, Chief Operating Officer of Beximco Pharma, said, “As a responsible organization, we are committed to expanding access to healthcare services. These initiatives, as part of our CSR programs, will help meet public health needs, which is especially crucial during national crises.”

Currently, there has been a rise in measles infections in the country. A sudden increase in infections among children and several child deaths in recent weeks have created serious public health concerns. In response to this situation, the company has handed over 3 ventilators to the Ministry of Health.
