Third Terminal of Shahjalal International Airport Expected to Open by December 16

The government is moving forward rapidly with preparations to inaugurate the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by December 16, according to Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson and adviser Mahadi Amin.

He disclosed the information on Monday during a press conference organized to highlight the government’s achievements during its first 100 days in office.

Mahadi Amin said the government has also begun preparations to implement an economic corridor stretching from Teknaf to Tetulia in an effort to accelerate trade and transportation connectivity across the country. He added that technology-driven services are being expanded through the introduction of high-speed free Wi-Fi services at airports and on trains.

He further noted that bank guarantee facilities for students pursuing higher education abroad have been expanded, while new sports and cultural development initiatives have been introduced for youth.

Ministries Directed to Prepare 180-Day Action Plans

Mahadi Amin stated that from the very first day of assuming office, the government prioritized the rapid and visible implementation of its electoral commitments. To support this effort, all ministries have been instructed to prepare sector-based 180-day action plans.

According to him, initiatives undertaken in social security, agriculture, education, healthcare, employment, economy, technology, and infrastructure have created renewed optimism among citizens.

Speaking about the agriculture sector, he said the government approved waivers, including interest, on agricultural loans of up to Tk 10,000 for small farmers during its first cabinet meeting. He also highlighted the launch of a digital “Farmer Card” system aimed at modernizing agricultural management.

Focus on Healthcare and Governance

Regarding healthcare, Mahadi Amin said nearly all children in the country have now been brought under measles vaccination coverage. He also mentioned initiatives to extend maternity leave and gradually increase healthcare spending to 5 percent of GDP.

He added that the elected government’s cabinet held 10 meetings between February 17 and May 24, during which 60 important decisions were adopted. Of those, 37 decisions have already been implemented, while the remaining 23 are currently in progress.

Additional remarks at the press conference were delivered by Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon. The event was moderated by Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony.

Others present included Prime Minister’s speech writer S A M Mahfuzur Rahman, Deputy Press Secretaries Hasan Shiplu, Sujau Doula Sujon, and Shahadat Hossain Swadhin.
