Engineers Urge Tech-Driven Urban Planning to Tackle Dhaka Traffic and Waterlogging
Emphasis has been placed on implementing technology- and engineering-based planning to address the persistent traffic congestion and waterlogging problems in the capital. Stakeholders have called for integrated urban management and sustainable infrastructure development to this end.
The call was made on Tuesday, 19 May, during a courtesy meeting between leaders of the interim committee of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) and Md. Abdus Salam.
The meeting was held at the Nagar Bhaban in the capital. Among those present were IDEB Convener Md. Kabir Hossain, Member Secretary Kazi Sakhawat Hossain, and Organizing Secretary Golam Kibria.
The discussion focused on long-standing traffic congestion and waterlogging issues in Dhaka. Participants stressed the need for coordinated initiatives to modernize urban management, develop sustainable infrastructure, and reduce public suffering.
IDEB leaders highlighted the importance of implementing engineering-based planning to improve the capital’s road communication system and resolve waterlogging problems.
Md. Abdus Salam called for the cooperation of all stakeholders in implementing effective measures to reduce public suffering in the city.
