Measles Mitigation Move: Govt Accelerates Vaccination Drive with Data-Driven Targets
As measles outbreaks have increased across the country, the government has launched a special measles vaccination campaign in 30 upazilas across 18 high-risk districts since April 5. Under this program, 228,415 children have been vaccinated over the past three days, representing 19 percent of the target.
This information was disclosed by the Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday, April 8.
Analysis of the available data shows that the government has set a target to vaccinate 1,203,267 children in 30 districts across six divisions by April 22. Of these, 228,415 children have already been vaccinated in the past three days, achieving 19 percent of the overall target. Among them, 87,011 children received the vaccine on April 7.
The 30 upazilas across the six divisions include: Godagari in Rajshahi; Nawabganj in Dhaka; Louhajang, Sadar, and Srinagar in Munshiganj; Nalchity in Jhalokathi; Trishal, Sadar, and Phulpur in Mymensingh; Haimchar and Sadar in Chandpur; Mehendiganj and Bakerganj in Barishal; Ishwardi, Sadar, Atgharia, and Bera in Pabna; Porsha in Naogaon; Gazipur Sadar; Atpara in Netrokona; Jazira in Shariatpur; Barguna Sadar; Madaripur Sadar; Maheshkhali and Ramu in Cox’s Bazar; Shibganj in Chapainawabganj; Bholaganj; Natore Sadar; and Jashore Sadar.
Meanwhile, the measles vaccination campaign will begin on April 12 in the areas of Dhaka North and South City Corporations, Mymensingh City, and Barishal City Corporation. The nationwide vaccination campaign will commence from May 3.
