Apple’s foldable iPhone, reportedly named “iPhone Fold” or “iPhone Ultra,” has reached a critical stage in its production process. According to information shared on China’s social media platform Weibo by the leaker “Instant Digital,” Apple’s longtime manufacturing partner Foxconn has already commenced trial production of the device.

Production and Launch Timeline
The start of trial production indicates that the device’s design is nearing finalization and Apple is preparing for the final phase of manufacturing. Latest reports suggest that the “iPhone Fold” is expected to be unveiled alongside the iPhone 18 Pro series in September. However, due to the complexity of the technology, there has been some uncertainty regarding its availability.

The new report suggests that Apple aims to begin mass production around July, aligning with the main series rollout. Previously, Barclays analyst Tim Long had predicted that the device could be delayed until December, but current information indicates that Apple is striving to launch it concurrently with the flagship series.

Expected Design and Features
Available information indicates that the “iPhone Fold” will feature a “book-style” foldable design, offering an approximately 5.5-inch display when folded and a 7.8-inch screen when fully opened.

Design and Display:
The device will be just 4.5 mm thick when unfolded. Apple has reportedly succeeded in making the fold crease nearly invisible by using specialized metal plates and a liquid metal hinge.

Biometrics:
Due to the ultra-thin screen structure, it is not possible to install the necessary “TrueDepth” sensor for Face ID. Therefore, for security, the device will use Touch ID integrated into the side button, similar to the iPad.

Pricing:
The “iPhone Fold” is expected to become Apple’s most expensive iPhone, with initial reports suggesting a starting price of around $2,000 (approximately BDT 230,000).

Although trial production has begun and the timeline seems set, Apple may delay production if needed to ensure final quality standards. The exact future of the “iPhone Fold” will become clearer over the coming months.
